A coalition is a pact or treaty among individuals or groups, during which they cooperate in joint action, each in their own self-interest, joining forces together for a common cause. The noun "coalition" comes from the Latin word coalitiō, meaning "to grow together."
Franklin's Promise Coalition is based on the federal governments model for community coalitions, bringing the strength of all twelve sectors of the community together to identify challenges and combine resources to address unmet needs and strengthen the community. Grounded in asset based community development principles, the Coalition believes that the "people are the solution to their own challenges, not agencies, institutions or governments." Empowering people to be the problem-solvers is the sustainable path to a thriving, happy community.
